What is Bioenergetic Testing (Bionetics)?

It has been very well documented, the human body is a giant battery of energy. The Chinese recognized this thousands of years ago and termed this energy flow Chi (pronounced Chee). They subsequently mapped the routes this energy follows and named these routes meridians. They further determined there were specific points along these meridians which acted like circuit breakers or dams. These points only allowed a certain amount of energy to flow along these energy highways. The Chinese found the amount of energy flowing through these meridians had a direct effect on a person's health. The collective term used today to describe the measurement of energy in the body is Bionetics. It is also refered to as Electrodermal Screening.

In the late 1940's, a German physician, Dr. Reinhold Voll became fascinated with this Chinese concept . He felt there should be a way to measure the amount of energy in these meridians without penetrating the skin with needles. Dr. Voll's research over the next 40 years resulted in the development of an instrument called the "Dermatron". He was finally able to measure the energy flow along these meridians and determine if the body was in a state of health or distress. His work and this area of study was named Electroacupuncture According to Voll or EAV for short.

Where is Bioenergetic Testing and EAV being used?
This technique is prevalent in Germany, England, Holland, the greater portions of Europe, the Ukraine, Italy and Canada. This procedure is considered a medical procedure in foreign countries and is used by doctors to diagnose conditions. In the United States, due to FDA guidelines, this testing is classified as biofeedback. There are currently several hundred bioenergetic practitioners in the United States, but only a few in Canada. It is considered one of the most significant breakthroughs in health care in many years.

How does Bioenergetic Testing work?
During Dr. Voll's days, an EAV evaluation was very tedious and would take 3-4 days. In the 1980's, EAV was computerized and an evaluation was shortened to 3-4 hours. Today, with the BodyScan 2010 computerized testing system, the body can be tested for 10,000 different substances in a little over 10 minutes. The feedback obtained from this testing assists the practitioner in determining imbalances in the body. These imbalances according to Chinese medicine can result in certain conditions and diseases.

Does the testing hurt?
The BodyScan 2010 instrument is a non-evasive, painless procedures which does not involve the use of needles. A series of energetic-sensitive harnesses are placed around the wrists, ankles and head and used to measure energy through the acupuncture meridians. The testing and subsequent balancing are non-invasive and pain free. It is an extremely safe procedure for most people including infants as the elderly. It is contraindicated in those who have pace-makers.

How long does it take to see results?
Different people respond at different rates, depending on a variety of factors. For example, a three year old child with a recent history of illness will respond faster than a sixty-five year old person who has had a problem for fifty years. Life-style, diet, physical condition, and trauma are but a few of the factors which play a role in the healing process.

Generally , it takes 4-6 weeks for every year the person has had the condition. Health conditions the body has not been able to resolve (i.e. a viral imbalance) are "buried " and may stay in the body for years before the body is able to start addressing the issue. It takes a tremendous amount of energy to hold these unresolved issues in check while the body deals with the every day activities of survival. These unresolved conditions are often responsible for functional diseases in which a person "just doesn't feel well" or "hurts all the time". Standard laboratory and diagnostic tests are normal or inconclusive because the illness is sub clinical, meaning the illness has not progressed enough to spill over into the body fluids. A person can be in ill health without having positive laboratory tests.

Testing is scheduled every 4-8 weeks initially until all the major issues are resolved. A person then has the option of periodic retesting on a maintenance schedule to head off imbalances before they become major health issues.

What is the patient's role?
